Mercury removal from gold mining wastewater using palm oil fuel ash (POFA)

نویسندگان

چکیده

Mercury is a harmful element that commonly accumulates in the environment through anthropogenic activities such as gold mining. This study aimed to examine use of palm oil fuel ash (POFA) an agricultural waste remove mercury mining wastewater. The technology applied this was adsorption and precipitation. POFA first washed until neutral then mixed with effluent time variation 30, 60, 90 minutes. Next, precipitate it for 30 adsorbent dose used 250 mg 1 litre effluent. maximum efficiency observed 96.77%. utilization reduced levels wastewater below allowed released level (0.0025 Hg/L). Results indicate reducing from by utilizing simple, effective, low-cost be implemented.

Removal of heavy metal from industrial wastewater using chitosan coated oil palm shell charcoal

* Corresponding author This research focuses on understanding biosorption process and developing a cost effective technology for treatment of heavy metals-contaminated industrial wastewater. A new composite biosorbent has been prepared by coating chitosan onto acid treated oil palm shell charcoal (AOPSC). Chitosan loading on the AOPSC support is about 21% by weight. The shape of the adsorbent i...

Mercury removal from aqueous solutions by palm leaves adsorbent

Mercury is a carcinogenic and teratogenic compound that tends to accumulate in water solutions. In this research, the removal of mercury from an aqueous solution was evaluated by using palm leaves. Experiments were performed to study the adsorption efficiency, the effect of the adsorbent amount, the balance time, the adsorbate concentration, and the pH on mercury removal. The experimental appar...

Binary Effect of Fly Ash and Palm Oil Fuel Ash on Heat of Hydration Aerated Concrete

The binary effect of pulverized fuel ash (PFA) and palm oil fuel ash (POFA) on heat of hydration of aerated concrete was studied. Three aerated concrete mixes were prepared, namely, concrete containing 100% ordinary Portland cement (control sample or Type I), binary concrete made from 50% POFA (Type II), and ternary concrete containing 30% POFA and 20% PFA (Type III). It is found that the tempe...

Removal of Mercury from Wastewater Using a Constructed Wetland

Removal of mercury from municipal wastewater using a constructed wetland was studied. Wastewater, wetland plant, and sediment samples were analyzed using an advanced mercury analyzer AMA-254. Average concentrations of total mercury in inflow and outflow water were 0.157 and 0.057 μg L−1, respectively. Significant fraction of mercury (38.2 %) was removed from wastewater during pretreatment. Merc...
